Buon Appetito!

We love to eat. Plain and simple. From Thai to Mexican, Italian to Armenian. We love to try new things. We love to find new places to eat. Our favorite places are the little out-of-the-way restaurants that we find. No big, fancy, national chain reataurants for us (although we definitely do our fair share of patronization at them). Give us a little mom-and-pop operation any day.

This week we found just one such place. Our friends took us to a little place called Buon Appetito near Downtown Houston. Best. Italian. Food. Ever. 'Nough said. Not only was the food delicious, the atmosphere was charming. The tables were small, and the rooms were cozy. And the little old man playing guitar and singing old songs was adorable. In fact, when he noticed Brielle, he came up to our table and played and special lullaby just for her. So cute! She loved it, too. Just stared at him with wide blue eyes.

So, if you're ever on the corner of Greenbriar and Holcombe, stop in at Buon Appetito. It's definitely 5 stars!

Jekyl and Hyde

Today was Brielle's first Sunday at church. We started off the day very well. We got ready and out the door almost on time. Brielle looked so cute in her little dress and didn't even spit up once during church. She only fussed once the whole three hours.

And then the tables turned. Exit Jekyl and enter Hyde. As soon as we got home, Brielle turned into Miss Fussy. Nothing could sooth her. She fussed all day long. Poor little thing. I think she got some tummy troubles. We gave her some Mylocin and finally, she let out a huge burp and blew out her diaper, and she seemed to calm down a little bit after that. Hope it won't be too long of a night...

4 weeks and Fall Festival

Brielle turned 4 weeks old on Saturday. I can't believe a whole month has gone by! She is growing bigger and more precious by the day. Saturday was also our ward's Fall Festival, so we put on our prettiest duds and went to check things out. It was so fun! There was a chili cookoff, a pumpkin decorating contest, and a place for pictures. It was great to just get out, relax, and enjoy the cooler fall weather.

Our First Family Picture

I promise, she does wake up sometimes!

Halloween Trivia

Halloween has snuck up on me this year (I blame it on having a baby). I usually do a quiz or trivia list in honor of one of my favorite holidays, so I figured I better get it posted before Halloween slips right by me! The answers to the questions are at the bottom of the post. Ready... Set... Go!

1. What was the first wrapped penny candy in America?

2. What are the signs of a werewolf?

3. Why are orange and black associated with Halloween?

4. What per cent of parents admit to sneaking candy from their childrens' trick or treat bag?

5. According to superstition, what will you see when you look into a mirror at midnight on Halloween?

6. What were the first jack-o-lanterns carved out of?

7. How many women were burned as witches at the Salem Witch Trials?

8. If a black cat enters your home, what would folklore suggest you do to ward off bad luck?

9. Where did pumpkins originate?

10. Where did bobbing for apples originate?

Answers:
1. Tootsie Roll
2.
a unibrow, hair palms, tattoos, and a long middle finger.
3. orange is associated with the Fall harvest and black is associated with darkness and death.
4. 90%
5. Your future spouse
6. turnips and beets
7. None. Those executed were hanged. One was pressed, and many died in prison of natural causes
8. Be kind to it.
9. Central America
10. Rome

Bunny Slippers

A couple friend of ours came over the other night with a present for Brielle. Inside was the cutest pair of bunny slippers ever! We just had to try them on. Thanks Ken and Meagan!

Week 2 Checkup

Brielle had her first checkup on Friday afternoon. She was a little trooper. They had to do another newborn screening test, which meant more blood work. She hates the needle, but she was so brave. I was mad at the lab tech because she wouldn't let me hold Brielle while she took the blood samples, and Brielle was mad about it too. She cried and cried. Last time when I held her, she didn't cry at all.

Then it was time to see the doctor, and that was painless. Brielle is in the 73 percentile for height (21 inches) and the 26 percentile for weight (7 lbs 10 oz). She gained about a pound and a half from when she was discharged from the hospital! I'd say we have a champion eater on our hands.

We've been trying to get some good pictures of Brielle when she's awake, but she won't cooperate very well. She's such a little wiggle worm! Here are a couple we managed to snap with her eyes open:

And another sleeping pose. She just looks so angelic when she sleeps!
