7 Months

Brielle turned 7 months old on Monday. She celebrated by getting an ear infection, yeast infection, and viral rash all at the same time. Now that we're on antibiotics, life is much better, and Brielle is getting to be VERY active. She loves to

Crawl - ALL OVER the place!
Make cheesy faces at me when she's crawling around.
Eat the springy door stoppers on the wall.
Make raspberry sounds with her tongue.
Feed herself. Bread and Rice Puffs are the greatest inventions ever for her.
Get into her diaper bag.

I had to include this video. It cracks me up!

The Teachings of a Mother

Being an alumnus of BYU, Mark receives BYU Magazine, which I steal to read (heh heh...).  I usually just glance over the articles to see if there's anything really interesting.  Sometimes there is, sometimes there isn't.  We received our latest issue the other day, and I did my usual perusing.  And I came across this article that really caught my attention.

The article is entitled "Homework:  Mothers share how they apply at home what they learned at BYU."  It basically shares experiences that BYU grads have had applying their degrees to what they do at home with their children.  I loved reading and knowing that there are women in the world who really use the knowledge they have attained to teach their children.  It also drove home to me, with an intensity I have never felt before, the awesome responsibility I have to create an atmosphere of learning in my home.

As I read the article, I kept thinking of the story of the Stripling Warriors.  Particularly the lines, "And they rehearsed unto me the words of their mothers, saying: We do not doubt our mothers knew it."  I want my children to be able to say the same of me, especially in spiritual matters, but also in temporal ones.  I want them to be able to say, "My mother taught me to love learning.  She taught me to love the Lord."

I also thought of my own mother, and the skills she acquired and applied in our home.  Because of her, I learned good study habits, the value of integrity, and a love of all things good and wholesome.  I learned the value of doing something worthwhile, even thought it was hard; plugging through the drudgery days to get to the good ones.  I hope I can pass on some of these great lessons to my own children.

I am so glad to be a part of a church that challenges us to be the very best we can be; to look past the surface and dig deep into our souls to grow and blossom - to become, ultimately, even as our Father in Heaven is.
Boy, do I have a long way to go!

Mercer Arboretum

Brielle and I joined the gals in Playgroup at the Mercer Arboretum today.  It was beautiful with all the spring flowers in bloom, and we got some fun pictures.  I just love exploring fun places like this!

Easter Celebrations

To kick off our Easter celebrations, we took Brielle to our neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt. It was a beautiful day, and there were tons of people. The egg hunt was divided up into age groups, so Brielle was in the 0-2 group. The Easter Bunny started the hunt, and the mayhem began. I put Brielle down so she could pick up her first egg, but I think the excitement and confusion around us was too much for her, because she started to cry (more evidence of her tender heart). But once I showed her that she was supposed to pick up the eggs, she got the idea, and actually had fun; although she wouldn't pick up the eggs. She'd roll them around and then pick the grass instead.

Showing Daddy her Easter Egg.

We must have worn her right out, because she fell asleep in her stroller on the walk home and slept through all two hours of the Saturday Morning session of conference.

Yup, she slept the whole two hours in the stroller. I wasn't about to move her for fear she'd wake up!

Easter morning, Brielle woke up to her Easter basket (which I didn't get a picture of... Doh!) full of bath toys and an Easter book. Both were big hits.

The following video did not take place on Easter, but it was so funny that I had to include it:

Am I a bad mom for laughing?
