Holland Day 4

Mathea took Friday off and showed us more of Holland. We started off the day by visiting Muiderslot Castle. Muiderslot is a mideval castle that was once inhabited by a famous Dutch poet and has been turned into a museum. The castle is also still used for parties and concerts.

On the way to the castle, we saw a bridge that turns to let boats pass. I tried to get a couple of good pictures of it, because apparently they're pretty rare even in Holland.

After Muiderslot, we headed to Zaanse Schans, a Dutch village near the South Sea. There were tons of windmills, a wooden shoe factory, and a cheese factory too. We got to see a wooden shoe making demonstration - so cool! We also walked around the village and saw the first grocery store that still exists in Holland - Albert Hein. We joked around and called in "Albertsons" for most of our trip.

From Zaanse Schans, we went to a little fishing village by the South Sea. We found a little souvenier shop, and had fun looking at the t-shirts for sale. Lots of them have references to the redlight district or marajuana, and we took a picture of a great shirt with Obama on the front. (Apparently Dutch people LOVE Obama.) We would have loved to walk around more, but it started pouring, so we found a little restaurant to eat dinner - I had the best spinach tortellini in my life - and then headed home.
